Delicious tompouce recipe

Tompouce, or tompoes or know as it is a traditional Dutch custard. Tompouce are generally two layers of puff pastry which filled of cream or custard and covered with sweet layer of pink or orange fondant icing sugar.




Served: 4 tompouces                              
Level: easy                                            
Preparation and cooking time : 50 minutes

Ingredients:

Puff pastry
- use ready made puff pastry

Custard Filing
- 250 ml of milk
- 1 1/5 teaspoon of vanilla
- a little bit of salt
- 2 egg yolks
- 40 grams of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of cornflour

Icing
- 100 grams of powdered sugar or icing sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of orange juice
- 2 teaspoons of milk
- a drop of red food coloring

Preparation:

Puff Pastry
1. Preheat the oven to 200 C
2. Defrosted ready made puff pastry
3. cut into 8 pieces in size 5 x 12 cm
4. place in the baking tray and bake for 10 minutes until turn to light brown.
5. take out the oven and cool down


Custard Filing
1. Beat the egg yolks with sugar and flour in the mixture for 3 minutes or until foamy
2. heat the milk on a low temperature with the vanilla extract
3. Add 2 tablespoons of milk to the egg mixture and mix for short time
4. Take the egg from the mixture to the hot milk and whisk until thickened
5. take out from the heat and wrap it with plastic and let it cool, it will like pudding or thick custard

Icing
1. Combine the icing sugar, orange juice and milk
2. Add a drop of red food coloring
3. Beat or stir until blended


To Serve:
1. Glaze the icing on the top of  4 pieces of pastry
2. Spread custard filling on another 4 pieces of pastry  
3. put the each of glazed pastry on top custard filling
4. you may put whipped cream on top if you like
5. now ready to serve
